Lamanai Mayan Ruins Tour - Awesome!

Nov 2013 • Family

We were on a cruise with Princess Cruise line and had actually scheduled the Cave Tubing excursion as we had already did the Tulum Mayan Ruins in Cozumel. Our Cave Tubing excursion was cancelled due to too much rain so we made an adjustment.

We started out with slight disappointment and we were dressed intending to cave tube, however my entire family was pleased with this tour beyond our expectations. Mario (super Mario) was our tour guide on the 45 to 60 minute bus ride to the New River for a total group size of 25 (nice size for a good experience. The bus was clean and air conditioned and we learned much about the history of Belize on our ride north.

We finished our loop with a couple of quick looks at the jaguar temple and ball court but as we started to get a light rain, we chose to return to the restrooms and boat for our return trip. Once on the speed boats, it did rain some more but we enjoyed the experience and have a great memory of the entire time in Belize.

Our tour guide and drivers were all safe and courteous and I will recommend this tour to any one interested in an Eco-tour that is not a well manicured cement sidewalk but a great example of a tour to the jungle with some "comforts" but not damaging the experience of exploring.

We ranked this excursions as one of our highlights.

When we got to the New River, we boarded speed boats for a 25 mile (45-60 minutes again) that was very exciting for all. The boat travels up the new river weaving around the many bends of the tropical rain forest. They stopped many times along the way to highlight the plants, animals, birds, termite mounds, Mennonite communities and anything of interest along the way. We were happy we wore sun glasses as the boat was very fast and thus the wind was strong. But we all enjoyed this part of the trip and we tool many pictures along the way.

As we approached the ruins, it became obvious why they were located there as it was high ground in the area that was near a water source.

Upon arrival we had a local Belizean lunch of chicken, rice with black beans, plantains, and a wonderful onion/habanero relish. We all ate the food and enjoyed it with a bottle of coke, orange Fanta, or sprite as well as bottles of water for the hike. There was clean rest rooms here with a few small shops as well that were not overwhelming.

As we were in a rain forest and the rainy season, the trail did have some muddy sections but it was well maintained yet rugged. I specifically liked the feeling of "Indiana Jones" exploring into the jungles for Mayan ruins. The size and diversity of the plant life was amazing. We saw a frog the size of a quarter and a grass hopper the length of a pen.

When we arrived to the first of the restored ruins, there was a family of howler monkeys in the trees that we got to see and we climbed up the first ruin for a high view, but the best was still to come. We then went further up the looping trail (that returns to our starting point with the boat) to the largest temple that had a rope up the stairs we could use to climb up. From there we were on the highest point and could see above the jungle trees for miles. I'm sure we could see Guatemala, and from the top there were 50 - 100 dragon flies flying in the sunlight that were amazing to see as well.

Island Marketing Lamanai Mayan Ruins Belize Tour

Oct 2013 • Couples

We booked through Island Marketing instead of Carnival and saved money. This was an excellent tour - we highly recommend it! The van ride back and forth to the boat site passed by quickly as our driver and guide Wentworth took the time to provide us tons of great information about Belize. As for the boat ride to the Lamanai Mayan Ruins site - we couldn't keep our eyes off of the beautiful scenery. We saw flocks of parrots, bats, a rare tiger heron, tons of other birds and fed a spider monkey (cute little guy!)

The Lamanai Mayan Ruins was awesome. We were able to climb a little over a 100 feet to the top of one of the ruins and the 360 degree view was breathtaking. We could even see Guatemala from there! At the site, we saw a "mountain cow" (tapir) and heard Howler monkeys (boy, those guys are sure loud!). To top it off, we were even fed an authentic Belize feast. The only bummer was that we were not given more time at the site, as there seemed to be much more to see, yet.we had to get back to make the Carnival boat curfew.

Kudos to Island Marketing and Wentworth! Thank you for helping to make our trip the best vacation we have ever had!

Mayan Ruins, Belize

Oct 2013 • Friends

Great excursion, part of Carnival Liberty cruise! We got off the ship and had to take an approximately 2 hour bus ride to the Mayan Ruins. We heard the guide tell us some history of the ruins, and then got to climb one of the "pyramids" for a magnificent view from the top. After the tour of the Ruins, they fed us a meal of barbecue chicken, rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, potato salad and plantain. One of our modes of transportation was a hand-cranked ferry across the river to get to the Ruins.

Cave tubing with Island Marketing.Would do again! AWESOME!!

Sep 2013 • Couples

We booked with Island Marketing instead of booking through Carnival and saved $100.00.
I was a little skeptical at first because of a late start of the excursion but everythiing turned out great. Our guides Wentworth, Money Mike, M&M and Nascar are awesome. Wentworth did all the talking on the bus ride and was very informative about the culture, economy and everything about Belize. The cave tubing was unbelizeable and the fresh pineapple, watermelon, banannas and rum punch at the end was a nice suprise. Had a little scare with some flooding from a recent storm and the road being washed out but these guys got us back to the tender in plenty of time. Awesome job guys! Would do it again for sure and recommend this trip to anyone!

Excellent experience!!!

Aug 2013 • Couples

We booked an excursion with Island Marketing in Belize for cave tubing and zip lining. The experience was an excellent one!! We were greeted professionally and escorted over to the meeting spot. Once there, we waited for everyone to gather and then were walked to a large bus to take us to our destination. The bus ride was a bit long (about 1 and 1/2 hours), which is something that the company should tell you, but on the ride, the tour guides offered plenty of information about the country of Belize and about our upcoming tour. Upon arriving at the excursion site, there was plenty of the best fruit (pineapple, papaya, watermelon, cantaloupe, bananas) waiting for us along with water and rum punch. Everyone got ready to go and then it was off to grab our tubes and life vests before we crossed into the cave tubing adventure. We were in the caves for approximately 1 hour and were able to view the amazing scenery. Only suggestion is to definitely bring a waterproof camera with a flash so that you can get some awesome pictures within the caves. After the caves, it was back to the changing area for more fruit and preparation for the zipline portion of the excursion. We were then ready to go on our 8 runs through the rainforest. The guides were with you all along the way for another amazing experience. Also bring your camera along for this portion to be sure to get pictures as you zipline. After ziplining, it was back to the bus area for more fruit, punch, and an enchilada lunch. Yummy!! After lunch, it was back on the bus to head back towards the cruise ship. Overall, this was a great experience. Tour guides were great! Activities were great! Lunch and fruit included were great! All of this for half the price of what the cruise line charges. And, they do make sure you are back to the ship for departure on time. However, it is an all day excursion, so if you wish to do anything else while in port, this may not be the best option for you.

Altun Ha, Mayan Ruins Tour

Jul 2013 • Family

We went on the Altun Ha Mayan Ruins tour offered by our cruise, Carnival. Our tour guide was Manuel, also known as M & M. He was excellent. He answered our many questions about the ruins and Belize. He showed us points of interest as we drove to and from the ruins. At the ruins he told us the history of the Mayans and even gave us some useful regarding vendors we would encounter as we walked around the ruins.

Manuel made the trip interesting for our family. It was a somewhat long drive from the port but he made the time go by with his informative conversation.

While our children are not real history buffs, they still enjoyed climbing up the many stairs of the pyramids and learning about the Mayans too. This was more of an educational excursion than the others we did at prior ports (zip lining, paddle boarding & caving) but still was a good way to spend the day and see a little of Belize.

Island Marketing, Roatan, Honduras

Aug 2013 • Family

My daughter (17) and I went on a Carnival cruise Aug. 4-11, 2013. All the carnival excursions had mostly negative reviews about being too crowded, so I chose Island Marketing in Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. We could not have been more happier. In Roatan, we choose the double snorkel and private beach visit. Our guide was Quincey, and our in-water snorkel guide was Jacob. There were several others booked in this excursion, but thy no-showed. Quincey could have just cancelled, but he spent 4 hours spoiling my daughter and I. Just the two of us, and our two guides. We felt safe, and like the two most important people in their world that day.we have been on over 21 snorkel dives in the Caribbean, but this was the best. A 1901 shipwreck, and a hidden valley that was the most perfect dive I've ever been on. Jacob kept us safe in the water, while Quincey guarded our valuables on the boat. Quincey gave us all the history of Roatan, and his love for his country was obvious. This was the best day I'd our cruise, with no doubt. Sash loved it and so did I. Don't booked with carnival, go with island marketing. Better service, better value, better people. We fell in love with Quincey and Jacob, and we tipped them very well. Call me if you have any questions.

XTreme Zip Lining and Cave Tubing

Aug 2013 • Family

We had an awesome experience with these folks! Our tour guides, Wentworth, Shanna and TooTall were all very friendly and helpful. We got a great tour on the hour ride to the zip line and tube site, with Wentworth humorously informing us about Belize's culture. This was a great experience for all of us, and we were able to have more time in the water than the folks who booked through Carnival. Our cost was half of the Carnival excursion, too!

Belize Lamanai Mayan Ruins Experience

Jul 2013 • Couples

This was my favorite excursion of the four I went on during my cruise. Lamanai was amazing! Our tour guide "Easy" was fun and informative. He made the long bus ride seem short with all the information he told us about Belize. From the bus we took a riverboat to Lamanai, the boat driver was able to show us spider monkeys, bats, and unique birds. It was an enjoyable ride. Once we got to Lamanai, they provide a delicious lunch before you hike to the ruins. We were able to see and hear Howler Monkeys (the highlight of the trip for me) and had enough time to see all the excavated ruins. The walk through the rain forest is beautiful and the ruins are incredible. We were able to go to the top of the high temple which had a breathtaking view of the rain forest and river. One thing I really liked about Lamanai was how uncrowded it was. There were very few groups (it does take 2 hours to get there) which was nice especially being at the crowded ruins of Tulum in Mexico the day before. I highly recommend that you visit Lamanai if you happen to be in Belize and definitely recommend that you book with Belize Cruise Excursions.
