Redstone was a pretty interesting, yet hard thing to master in Minecraft. Once you get the hang of it, redstone will become people’s favorite ore to play around with and make cool machines. With redstone, you can almost automate everything that you have in your base, including your farms!
This guide will show you all about redstone in the newest 1.19 update in Minecraft.
Minecraft Ultimate 1.19 Redstone Guide
Redstone Dust
The Redstone dust is the most basic of them all, you cannot get any power just by placing it down, think of redstone as your wiring in your machine. You can wire a ton of redstone and create a line that can be powered.

You can light up redstone by placing a redstone torch next to it, redstone block, a lever or any other powering blocks.
Redstone Torch
The Redstone Torch is your powering useful “block” that can be used to make great combinations with redstone repeaters, comparators, and even pistons. The redstone torch’s power constantly stays on, you can only turn it off it you send a different source of power to it.

You line redstone in a straight line and power it only by 12 blocks. After those blocks, you will need another source of power, or a repeater to continue the power of the line.
Redstone Block
This is a simple redstone block. You can craft it by placing 9 redstone in a crafting table. This block can be pushed by a piston and it will always be powered on. You can never turn off a redstone block.

Redstone Repeater
The redstone repeater is a great signal extender for your redstone line. You can select a delay timer between 4 in-game ticks that will slow down the power that is going to be sent to the next line.

Redstone Comparator
The redstone comparator can compare and subtract signal strength. You can use this to control how lines work and switch between powered lines.

Observer
The observer is a newer and a useful item that can see if an item can change its state. Whenever the block switches its state that is in front of the observer, the observer will send a power signal behind it and power whatever it’s lined up with.

Piston & Sticky Piston
The piston is a simple push and pull block. You can power it up and it will push a block and leave it where it’s at, you can also get a sticky piston and have it to both push and pull a certain block that has been placed there.
NOTE that not all blocks can be pushed by pistons, some can be broken, others will not move at all.

Slime Block
The Slime Block is a sticky block that works well with sticky pistons. You can place a slime block on a sticky piston and surround that slime block with different blocks that will stick to it, that will make the piston push and pull at least 6 blocks at once.

Honey Block
The Honey Block has similarities to the slime block, the difference is that the honey and slime blocks cannot stick to each other, but they stick other blocks with them. This will sometimes be very useful as you can build great machines and combine these two blocks together to push certain areas.

Dispenser
The Dispenser is a classic and an old item in Minecraft. Its use is very simple, place any block inside of it and it will drop it. NOTE that if you place TNT or any other movable block inside a dispenser, it will spit it out as a full block, and sometimes with TNT, it can cause damage.
This block can also shoot arrows which can be found very useful for making different traps.

Dropper
The Dropper is the exact same block as the Dispenser, the only difference is that the dropper will always throw blocks as a gatherable item. It will never spit out a full block or throw arrows or activate TNT.
Redstone Lamp
The Redstone Lamp is a light source that can be powered up by using any type of redstone signal. A great item for signaling things or decorating with it.

Iron Door & Trap Door
The iron door and trap door both serve the same purpose. They are solid blocks that zombies cannot break through, to open and close these blocks, you will need to send any type of redstone signals to them. Otherwise, they will stay shut.

Daylight Detector
The Daylight Detector is a simple block that will power up or power off once the weather is daytime or night time. This can be a great decorative block to make automated lamps that will turn on during the night, and stay off during the day.

It can also power up different blocks such as dispensers or droppers.
Tripwire Hook
The tripwire hook is a sort of a trap block, this can be used to set up various traps or activate certain signals once a player or a mob has passed through the tripwire hook and triggered it.

Trapped Chest
The trapped chest serves the same purpose as a regular chest, the difference here is that the trapped chest will send power through a redstone wire once it has been opened. This is great to set up traps under the chest such as TNT or dispensers to open up a hole and trap someone.

Target Block
This block will be activated once it gets hit by any sort of projectile. A bow and arrow is a common weapon that players often use to shoot these target blocks and activate a signal.

Lectern
The Lectern is a block that needs to have a written book on it. Once you’ve placed your book and quill on it, open up the book and start changing the pages, you will see that small redstone particles will come out from the behind and power certain lines.

Lightning Rod
The Lightning Rod is a block that attracts lightning, once lightning hits this block, it will send a signal to whatever it’s wired up with.

Lever
The lever is your basic on/off switch that you can use on many redstone pieces to turn them on or off simply by right-clicking the lever.

Stone & Wood Button
These two buttons may serve the same purpose but they have small differences. Pressing each button will send power and while the button is being pressed, the power will continue going. The wooden button stays pushed for a few ticks longer than the stone one.

Pressure Plate
The Pressure Plates are blocks that you can walk onto and they will send a signal, players can use these pressure plates to automate their iron/wooden doors and make entering and exiting much easier.
The stone and wood pressure plate have the exact same press duration.

Heavy & Light Weighted Pressure Plates
These pressure plates serve the purpose as the regular ones, the only difference between them is that they sense how many blocks are thrown on top of them, the more blocks dropped, the bigger and better the redstone signal.

FAQs
What Y level is best for Redstone? ›
With the above information in mind, it can now be concluded that the best level to mine for Redstone ore in particular is somewhere between 0 and Y = -64.
Does Redstone work differently in bedrock? ›Redstone functions slightly differently as well. Unlike Java Edition, Bedrock Edition doesn't support quasi-connectivity. Systems that utilize mechanics such as Block Update Detector (BUD) switches won't work. Pistons require one tick to retract and won't leave blocks behind if given a one-tick pulse.
What is the best level to find Redstone in 1.19 bedrock? ›This particular batch increases in concentration the lower the elevation. This means players hoping to find some redstone ore will likely want to begin at level -63 and work their way up slowly.
What level should I farm Redstone? ›You can find Redstone groups between the world height ranging between 0 to 10 and then again at the range of -63 to 15. Unlike other ores, Redstone ores give out light. It isn't too bright but you can easily spot these ore blocks within dark caves.
Will Minecraft bedrock ever get ray tracing? ›Minecraft: Bedrock Edition has cutting-edge path-traced ray tracing, enabling gamers and world builders to craft incredible new sights and immersive environments.

It's even possible (though very unlikely) for 4 veins of 8 to touch at a corner, and form a vein of 32.
What is layer 15 in Minecraft? ›You'll hit diamond territory at layer 15, but go ahead and keep digging. Diamonds only get more common the deeper you go, so go as deep as possible for the best results. But remember that diamonds are rare, even in low layers. It might take a long time for you to find any.
What does 4 gold and redstone make? ›1 Redstone + 4 Gold Ingots = Clock.
How does Redstone work in Minecraft Bedrock? ›Redstone dust acts like a conduit between a power source and a component. As the power signal travels farther from the power source, it gets weaker at a predictable rate. The redstone signal coming out of a power source starts at 15 and decreases by 1 for each block the line of redstone dust is extended.
Does Java Redstone work in bedrock? ›The majority of redstone mechanics work the same on Java and Bedrock Editions of Minecraft, but there are some important differences.
Does Minecraft Bedrock perform better? ›The older your computer is, the more leeway you'll need to give it with games. Minecraft is anything but new, but Bedrock tends to run better on older systems due to Java's generally poor optimization.
Are bedrock worlds infinite? ›
Technically, Minecraft worlds are not infinite, but you won't run out of space to build and explore any time soon.
How far can redstone travel without a repeater? ›Redstone Wire
Power can travel a distance of 15 blocks along a wire. To increase the range, place Redstone Repeaters in the circuit; this will increase the range of power by another 15 blocks.
In general, opaque blocks (ie. blocks you can't see through) can be powered by redstone; transparent blocks and non-solid blocks can not.
Which Minecraft version is better Java or Bedrock? ›If you want to mod or run custom servers, the Java Edition is the way to go. If you want cross-platform gameplay or want to play on mobile and consoles, the Bedrock Edition is your only option.

Real-world bedrock is hard, but absolutely breakable - and most large buildings are anchored into the bedrock with structures called "foundations".
Why is my FPS so low in Minecraft bedrock? ›Sometimes when playing Minecraft, you may experience a low FPS (frames per second) or frame rate. This may be due to applications running in the background or simply not having enough processing power to run the game smoothly at your current settings.
Why is bedrock smoother than Java? ›The only reason why Bedrock is running better is because bedrock has a real engine which is seperated from the game base. And this engine gets very strongly optimised by its own devs. Java on the other hand has no real engine and there are a lot systems which have artifacts of older versions and are not optimised.
What are 4 ways to use Redstone? ›Using redstone, you can create lights, open doors, and build devices that lift stones, raise bridges, or move water. It all starts with simple building blocks and power sources that you bring together to create the tools you need.
Can you place Redstone on slabs bedrock? ›If the player tries to place a slab in the same block as one of those components it will become "slabbed" rendering the top slab and changing the top of the block to solid making it able to support other blocks like redstone components.
